The Epping Ongar Railway (EOR) is both the longest heritage railway in Essex and the closest to London, easily accessible via the tube network.
This was originally part of the Central Line and ran from Epping, the current End of the Central line, to Ongar with intermediate stations at North Weald and Blake Hall. The Tube service finally ended in 1994, and there are rumours that the only reasons it survived so long was it had a role to play to get heads of the UK government to the nearby Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker. This bunker was decommissioned in 1992, which lead to this loss-making line no longer having any reason to stay open.
Shortly after a private company took the section line over, but could not make the project work, and the line was sold to the Epping Ongar Railway Volunteer Society (EORVS) who run the line today.
On Beer festival days, the Railway run connecting vintage London bus service from Epping station (London Underground Central Line, zone 6) and Shenfield on all days. The event features On board Real Ale bars and Bars and music at each station along with unlimited train travel on the diesel and steam trains that are running during the event.
Tickets need to be purchased in advance via the website below.
NOTE: The Beer Festival is run as an "In Association Event" and is not fully CAMRA run,
